Rehabilitation is central to the Juneau Raptor Center’s mission. We take in all types of sick and injured wild birds, from hummingbirds to eagles. Most of our patients are found in the Juneau area, however we also receive birds from communities around Southeast Alaska.
Our goal is always to release rehabilitated birds back to the wild. Sometimes, however, a bird may have a permanent injury, such as an amputation, blindness, or brain damage, that prevents the bird from surviving in the wild. In that case, the bird is used for education—either in Juneau or in another community.
Rehabilitation includes initial examination, wound care, veterinarian visits, daily cleaning and feeding, and then eventually exercise and release.
